Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in General Psychology

Program Overview

The objective of the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in General Psychology Program at Carlos Albizu University, San Juan Campus, is to train students in specialized skills and competencies in the teaching of psychology at undergraduate and graduate levels, and in the acquisition of knowledge, skills and competencies in research and professional consultation. Psychology professionals who already hold a master’s degree in the field may choose to continue their doctoral studies in this program in order to expand their knowledge base and improve their employment opportunities in various areas, including teaching, research, and professional consultation. Therefore, you as a graduate student from this program may find employment in a variety of settings including schools, private practice, universities, government offices, private institutions, research projects and professional consulting, etc.

Career Opportunities

As a graduate of our Doctor of Philosophy in General Psychology Program, you will be able to pursue employment in the areas of teaching, research, and/or professional consultation. Most of our graduates are employed as faculty in academic institutions who offer doctoral programs in psychology. Others are employed in the private sector, directing offices that provide psychological services as well as in administrative positions at schools, government agencies, and psychiatric hospitals. It is a source of pride for the Program that many of its graduates currently occupy positions of high importance and prestige in Puerto Rico.
