The process of becoming a Speech/Language specialist requires a combination of commitment and mastery of clinical skills to work with children and adults with communication disorders. Speech-language therapists and speech-language pathologists improve the quality of life of children and adults with speech, language and swallowing disorders in different stages, starting from infancy through adulthood years.

Carlos Albizu University’s Speech and Language Programs offer two degrees that will help students reach their goals of becoming specialists in the communication disorders field.
The Bachelor of Science in Speech/Language Therapy prepares students to provide treatment to children with communication disorders from 0-21 years. According to Law #77 which rules the exercise of the profession in Puerto Rico, the speech/language therapist works under the supervision of a licensed speech/language pathologist. The program consists of 120 credits of coursework which include two clinical practicum experiences in schools and early intervention programs.
The Master of Science in Speech/Language Pathology prepares students to work with children and adults with communication and swallowing disorders, as well to work in consulting and supervision. The program consists of 60 credits of coursework which include two clinical practicum experiences in hospitals, schools and community based programs.
